When the Luxor hotel opened on October 15, 1993 the striking pyramid structure was the tallest building in Las Vegas. This was a time when the development of casinos in Las Vegas relied on themes to differentiate themselves from one another. The Steve Wynn hotel, Treasure Island, was based on a pirate theme and second incarnation of MGM Grand (the original MGM Grand was what is now known as Bally’s) was all about the movies, complete with a yellow brick road directing visitors through the center of the casino floor. The Luxor, as the name suggests, relied on the ancient Egypt theme to tantalize it’s guests. The replica of the Sphinx in front of the hotel, which also doubles as the porte-cochere, greets visitors upon arrival. At one time there was even a Nile River ride, similar to what you might find in Epcot Center at Disneyworld.

Times and taste change very fast in Las Vegas and today the Luxor Hotel is going through a transformation that promises to bring a more contemporary flavor and erase any sign that the hotel and casino are 18 years old. This transformation began in 2006, with the refurbishment of the West Tower rooms, and will continue through 2008. All 4,047 rooms will be refurbished by the time the renovation is complete.

Gone is the RA Nightclub. RA was one of the first mega-nightclubs in Las Vegas. The Luxor is now home to the LAX Nightclub, a branch of the Los Angeles hot spot. LAX is a modern state-of-the-art nightclub covering two-stories and 26,000 square feet. Since the club was opened in August 2007 it has developed a reputation for being a celebrity hangout. There is also Noir Bar, a private reservation required bar located within the nightclub. An adjoining bistro will be opening soon so you can eat, drink and play in a singular destination.

Although the Nile River ride is no longer, the Luxor still has many entertainment offerings. The comedian Carrot Top offers his unique and somewhat twisted form of entertainment 6-nights a week. The adults-only revue, Fantasy, offers singing, dancing and of course, topless girls. Something the whole family can enjoy is the ventriloquist Ronn Lucas and his puppets who perform afternoon shows 6-days a week. In 2008 the Luxor will be home to yet another Cirque du Soleil production on the Las Vegas Strip. This production will be a collaboration with magician Criss Angel and will be housed in the theater formerly occupied by the Blue Man Group.

The Luxor’s parent company, MGM MIRAGE is spending $300 million dollars in an effort to bring the hotel in line with the newer resorts and casinos on the Strip. As the transformation continues there will surely be new restaurants added, new bars and nightclubs and new entertainment options. And as the ancient Egypt theme slowly disappears during this renovation, it is beginning to look like the only reference to the old Luxor Vegasthat will remain is it’s signature 30-story Pyramid Tower.

Las Vegas is a town where there never seems to be a bored person. The city offers such an array of nightclubs that anyone can get out and enjoy the nightlife. Whether you are out to meet someone, go dancing or just sit around in a lounge, there are plenty of venues to choose from.

Probably the most popular and famous of all the nightclubs in Vegas is Studio 54 at the MGM Grand Hotel. It boasts some of the most luxurious accommodation in hotel life. The Grand Tower is probably the most popular out of all of them, providing Bungalow suites, Celebrity Spa suites, Glamour suites, you name and they’ve got it. The Grand Tower houses some of the larger than average rooms of 446 square feet and all have black and white marble bathrooms, enormous closets, remote control televisions, clocks and even safes. Every room is also equipped with high speed internet access.

The ever famous MGM Grand Casino which is located downstairs, has some of the most state of the art gaming technology. Roulette, Blackjack, Baccarat, and Casino War are just some of the numerous games that are played throughout the casino. The MGM Grand Casino is said to have the largest selection of slot machines out of all the casinos in town. The most prized of all the gaming in the Casino is the Grand Poker Room. It is unmatched for comfort, and fast paced action. It is also open 24 hours a day. Some of the more popular poker games that are played include 7-Card Stud and Texas Hold ‘Em. No Limit Hold ‘Em tournaments are played vigorously throughout the year at the casino, and they even have licensed massage therapists at the table to help relieve the players’ stress.

Some of the finest dining in Las Vegas can also be found at the MGM Grand. Famous Chef Emeril Lagasse is the executive chef in charge of preparing the meals, whether he is personally cooking or overseeing his staff. Some of the fine fare includes scallops that are shipped all the way from Maine and prepared as a main dish, Pike fish caught and brought from the Midwest, Chef’s famous cooked Alabama chicken. Chef even makes his own fresh blend of Creole/Cajun cuisine, which is said to be notably better than anything prepared in a French Quarter Restaurant. He also serves a distinctive wine that won a Spectator’s Best Award of Excellence back in 1999.

The MGM Grand is the one place for anyone’s event needs. From intimate settings to large productions, the MGM Grand is staffed and ready to take care of your special events. Their mission is to deliver to their clients the excitement unbeatable service that the MGM Grand Vegas tradition demands. It has always been their mission to provide the best and most luxurious service that anyone could offer which is probably why they are rated the number one place in Las Vegas to spend a vacation. From lush relaxation in their pampered rooms to going downstairs and hitting the gambling scene, to shaking it all off in one of their fine dining restaurants, enjoying some of the best food money can buy, it is well worth anyone traveling there at least once.

Please correct me if I am wrong but aren’t Las Vegas Buffets just the best in the
world! Ok there are a few ones that are a bit how’s your father (an Australian term
for so so) but I am yet to go to a buffet that I havn’t enjoyed. This is probably why I
have a Vegas Buffet waist line.

Here I would like to share with you my top seven favourite buffets in Las Vegas.

1. La Village Buffet as Paris hotel.

I have to say that this buffet is total class, great service and the best French cuisine I
have ever tasted. They also have a great seafood selection and as far as I know are
the only buffet that serves Bananas Foster for dessert! With great atmosphere I give
it a 10/10

2. Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood Vegas Hotel.

This buffet has a similar feel to the buffet at paris but more fake jewels on the walls
?. The food is great but I have to say the selection was not as exciting as at paris.
However it really is great value and situated in the middle of some of the best
shopping in Vegas, who can complain!

3 Todai Japanese Seafood Buffet at Planet Hollywood Vegas.

If you love Japanese then this is the place for you. More sushi then you can poke a
stick at! They seem to have the most fresh and best selection of sushi I have seen
in a very long time. Other buffets really could afford to learn from this great place.

4.French Market Buffet at Orleans

I really liked this buffet. It was clean with a great selection of French foods on show.
Judging by the size of some of the partrons of this place they could not either! If
you are over that way and looking for a not too expensive lunch or dinner option
then this is place for you.

5. Village Seafood Buffet as Rio

If you love seafood then you will be in heaven! Well worth the wait for the bus ride
to Rio (you catch it a Bally’s) the seafood here is the best in Vegas. The ironic thing
is that I can’t eat seafood, but I was taking my Mom out so I wanted to make sure
she had a great night. Despite not being able to eat much of the buffet, I was still
able to leave with a more then full feeling that left me more then satisfied. By the
way Mom says the seafood was fantastic!

6. The Buffet at Bellagio at Bellagio

For a place that is as glitzy and showy as the Bellagio I have to say I was a little
disappointed at the fare they presented. Don’t get me wrong it was all very nice but
perhaps just not at the level you would expect of such a “high roller” establishment.
The day I was there they did have lovely duck and I had just lost $100 on blackjack
so let’s not mention that again?

7. Garden Court Buffet at Main Street Station.

Ok Ok I know that this place is off the beaten track but really it’s worth the cab ride.
This has to be the absolutely best priced, quality buffet in town. It’s cheep and
cheerful and boy the food and service was great. Sometimes it’s nice to get off Las
Vegas Blvd for a change after all, and you get to avoid all the snooty high rollers
that wouldn’t be seen dead here! Save your pennies for the craps table and still
leave as full as an egg.

Well that’s my top seven buffets. But before you run off don’t forget to have a look
for some of the discounts that are available with great coupons and clubs. These
books are great, you get to rub shoulders with the stars and still have cab fare
home!

Viva Las Vegas Buffets!
